Wellcare Spendables® Benefit for Eligible Medicare Members
The Wellcare Spendables® card is easy to use. Members can use the card to pay for eligible over-the-counter (OTC) medicine and healthy food products at participating S3 retailers. S3 retailers are included in member materials and provided when a member activates their Wellcare Spendables® card.
The Wellcare Spendables® card can be used anywhere Visa is accepted for utilities, rent, or gas pay-at-the-pump.
Members can also shop online at Healthy Benefits Plus or at Walmart for home improvement and safety items.
On the first of each month, depending upon plan benefits, members receive an allowance that automatically loads onto the Wellcare Spendables® card. Benefits vary by plan.
Wellcare Spendables® eligible items vary by plan, and may include:
Over-the-Counter (OTC) items
Members can use their Wellcare Spendables® card on plan-approved over-the-counter items. The card can be used at participating retail locations, online or via mobile app for home delivery. OTC items that can be purchased include cold medicine, allergy and sinus medicine, first aid supplies, vitamins, dental and oral health items.
NEW for 2025: Home Improvement and Safety Items
Members can also purchase home improvement and safety items at a Walmart store or online at Healthy Benefits Plus. This allows members to purchase specific products that will help them stay safe in their homes by making the home more accessible.
Approved Items:
• Grab bars, doorknobs and non-slip floor coverings: handrails, doorknob grips
• Safety chairs and bathroom modification aids: commode chairs, bedside commodes, safety frames and risers, shower chairs, grab rails, easy-use faucets, transfer benches
• Portable air conditioning and air quality products: portable air conditioning units, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, high efficiency particulate air filters, air quality monitors
• Pest and insect control supplies: traps, pest control sprays, bait trays
Eligible products are determined by categories at the SKU level. In-store, members may use the Healthy Benefits Plus app to scan for eligible products.
Healthy Foods
Members can use their Wellcare Spendables® card toward healthy foods at participating retail locations. Approved grocery items include but are not limited to fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy items, meat and seafood, breads, pantry staples, and nutritional drinks. Prepared meals are available for order via the online portal to maintain a healthy diet.
Members can use their Wellcare Spendables® card at providers with a valid Merchant Category Code (MCC). The provider must also accept Visa.
Utilities Assistance
Members can use their Wellcare Spendables® card to pay for plan-approved utilities for their home, including:
• Electric, gas, sanitary/trash, and water utilities services
• Telecommunication services
• Government Services
• Fuel, oil, wood, and coal
Rent Assistance
Members can use their Wellcare Spendables® card to help with the cost of rent for their home. Eligible expenses can include:
• Financial institution (includes mortgage lenders)
• Agents and Managers (includes apartment, housing, and property rentals)
Gas pay-at-the-pump
Members can use their Wellcare Spendables® card to pay for gas directly at the pump. The card cannot be used to pay in-person at the cash register. The card can only be used to pump gas up to the available benefit allowance amount.
How to use the Wellcare Spendables® card:
1. Activate the card prior to using it. Activation instructions are mailed with the Wellcare Spendables® card and are located on the card carrier
2. Shop in-store by visiting participating retailers or providers
3. Shop online for OTC, healthy food, home improvement and safety items
4. Mobile App – by downloading the Health Benefits Plus mobile app members can update their profile, check benefit balance, review transaction history, set up bill payment, access the program overview, and more
