SMI Determination
Serious Mental Illness (SMI) is a description used for people who need extra support. This is because their mental illness affects their ability to function. A person can request to be evaluated or considered for SMI services through their provider or their Regional Behavioral Health Authority. The provider or Regional Behavioral Health Authority complete an evaluation and an SMI Assessment packet. The packet is then sent to Crisis Response Network (CRN). CRN reviews all requests for SMI determinations. CRN will decide if the person is eligible to be designated as having SMI. CRN uses State guidelines and criteria.
